Humanity stands witness to the catastrophic impact of wars. The recent refugee crisis in Europe resulting from the war in Syria and elsewhere is a tragic example of the impact of war and its grave mental health consequences.
The Society of Preventive Psychiatry, the Hellenic Psychiatric Association, The Psychiatric Association for Eastern Europe and the Balkans and the Serbian Psychiatric Association have taken the initiative to prepare the attached Anti-War Declaration in the hope that along with other such initiatives it will influence decision-makers to prevent wars and stop them wherever they occur. The Declaration has been endorsed by 100 organizations from various parts of the world.
We are forwarding the Declaration to you and we are asking you to do the best you can to promote its implementation. We believe that in this way you will do a great service to humanity and international mental health and that the citizens of the world will be grateful to you for this great service.
We look forward to your support and thank you very much for your consideration.
With cordial regards
